Bill of Lading
Who Owns What?
A legal instrument used when freight is in play.
A bill of lading, issued by the carrier, is a requisite document in the shipment of freight. The BOL serves three main functions: 1) as a receipt that goods have been received and loaded; 2) provides terms for the contract of carriage; 3) and functions as a property title. A bill of lading is kept by the carrier during transit from the consigner to the consignee.
