The Way it Gets There
There are a multitude of modal variants transferring products from consigner to consignee. Yet, the myriad can be reduced to these carriages.
Auto Hauler
An auto hauling trailer can transport as few as a single automobile, up to 10 vehicles; 20 feet up to 53 feet. Wedge, double deck, flat bed, low boy, uncovered and covered are typical trailer variants utilized in vehicle carriage.
Container
A truck trailer body that can be detached from the chassis for loading into a vessel, a rail car or stacked in a container depot. Containers may be ventilated, insulated, refrigerated, flat rack, vehicle rack, open top, bulk liquid or equipped with interior devices. A container may be 20 feet, 40 feet, 45 feet, 48 feet or 53 feet in length, 8'0" or 8'6" in width, and 8'6" or 9'6" in height.
Dry Van
This is a trailer, generally 53’ in length by 8’6" wide by 9’6" tall (13’6" from ground). A dry van may be heated or vented but does not have refrigeration equipment.
Flatbed
A container with no sides and frame members at the front and rear. Container can be loaded from the sides and top.
Refrigerated Van (Reefer)
Refrigerated container or trailer.
